Healing Chronicles : Healing is Salvation

Week 2 July 2020

Is there anything in the scriptures that suggest that God considers divine healing less important than salvation of the soul/spirit?

Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,  and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. Heb 12:12-13

Is there anything in the New Testament that suggests that God considers the healing of the body of lesser consequence or importance than the healing or salvation of the soul/spirit?

Certainly in the light of man’s eternal destiny and his fellowship with God, the healing of the spirit of man through forgiveness is of prime importance. However from the God perspective, the healing of the body is a reflection of God’s attitude and perspective towards man.

God wants us whole and well.

In one of my works I made the categorical statement that healing is a revelation of the nature of God: God is a healer! This is how he revealed Himself to the children of Israel in the wilderness.

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet

There the Lord made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them.  He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you. Ex 15:25-26

You can read the full story in the preceding verses.

This is the first revelation of God the children of Israel received of God after their deliverance from Egypt.

Healing of the body is as important from the God perspective as the healing of the spirit because both reflect the nature of God as a healer.

This is why in almost every scripture where the redemptive work of Christ is referenced you will always find a reference to the healing of the body, let us consider just two examples

But it was our pain he took, and our diseases were put on him: while to us he seemed as one diseased, on whom God’s punishment had come.

But it was for our sins he was wounded, and for our evil doings he was crushed: he took the punishment by which we have peace, and by his wounds we are made well. Isa 53:4-5

(Bible in Basic English)

The New King James renders the same verse as follows

Surely He has borne our griefs

And carried our sorrows;

Yet we esteemed Him stricken,

Smitten by God, and afflicted.

But He was wounded for our transgressions,

He was bruised for our iniquities;

The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

And by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53:4-5

The words griefs and sorrows actually are translated pains or infirmity  and diseases in other parts of the scriptures where they are used, for example in Matthew 8: 17 where reference is made to Isaiah 53:4

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“He Himself took our infirmities

And bore our sicknesses.”  Matt 8:17

So this is a clear reference to healing of physical conditions, however the point to notice is to see that it is conjoined at the same time with Jesus suffering for our sins and transgressions.

God does not separate the two, the healing of the body and the healing of the spirit through forgiveness of sin, if He does not separate them, then we should not either. Jesus is the savior of the whole man. He came to make us whole, spirit, soul and body.

Now you understand 3 John 2

Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health as thy soul prospereth

Let’s stay with the bible and teach the revelation of Jesus Christ, we must not be more righteous than God who gave us Jesus Christ, who was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities and upon whom the punishment that brought peace to us was put and by whose stripes we are healed!

That is wholeness, God wants you to have everything that Jesus suffered to make available. He does not want you to live one ‘hoof’ behind. Everything is yours to the glory and praise of His name.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in the bible that suggests God wants you to choose between physical healing or the salvation of your soul. God wants you to have both!

There are numerous examples in the bible where people came to Jesus in the bible for the healing of the body  and he forgave their sins and healed their bodies.

Today as you believe, receive the Jesus of the bible and not the Jesus that men have crafted in their own ideas or agendas, receive him as He really is, the all loving, saving and healing Jesus and be saved in your body and in your spirit.

Praise God

Action Point

Lift up your voice in thanksgiving to God for the gift of Jesus that makes whole in every area, thank the Lord for enduring such suffering in order that you may find peace with God and healing for your body.

Receive the gift of healing just as you receive the gift of life, by faith and thank him for his healing power that is saving and healing your body.
