Matthew 8:16-17
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
What a wonderful comfort to read from the Word of God this powerful testimony of God’s unsurpassed ability through Jesus to heal and restore all.
There are many today who are in despair over the issues in their lives, the pain, torment, hopelessness, and financial drain that come with sickness and disease. Cheer up, there is hope for the hopeless and that hope is close by.
As it is today so it was in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ, sickness has always been an enemy but we thank God for Jesus who was sent to ‘deliver us from all our enemies and he hands of gem that hate us’ (Luke 1)
Jesus healed all that were sick, his power to heal is not in doubt, that power was clearly revealed in the Word and that power is still with us today, he didn’t take it back to heaven, he left it here among men, among those who are called by His name and today we exercise that power through faith in His Name and by the power of His Spirit.
He is the same yesterday, today & forever. If he healed yesterday, we can be sure he heals today, glory to God!
We need to look at that scripture again, it says they brought to him many that were possessed with demons and he cast out the spirits with his word.
We know from scriptures and by experience that many infirmities are backed or caused by demonic powers, foul spirits of infirmities that afflict the bodies & minds of people, these conditions often resist conventional medicine, so we call them incurable & resort to managing the condition but thank God we can cast them out by power of Jesus.
Healing is the will of God, it is not an appendage to the gospel, it is the gospel, it is the twin side of the gospel.
The message of Jesus and the kingdom of God is a message of healing and restoration. God did not create man to be bound by sin, satan, or sickness. In the mind of God, this is an aberration and Jesus came to correct that aberration.
This is why he bore our sicknesses and carried away our infirmities as Isaiah prophesied. So you see that just as Jesus bore our sins, he also dealt with our sicknesses so that we don’t have to bear them ourselves anymore.
The healing ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ was a fulfillment of that which God spoke through the prophet. This ministry is still ongoing today for Jesus is ALIVE.
Many people struggle with believing for their healing because they have not been taught right, if Jesus still saves from sin, then he is still saving from sickness & demonic harassment. Look at what Isaiah said in full
Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely he hath borne our griefs ( sicknesses), and carried our sorrows (diseases): yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.
Can you see that the redemptive work of salvation has two major components? One dealing with sin & the other with sickness, that is the full gospel.
They must be preached and can be received together.
Of course, we know that in the eternal scheme of things, the salvation of the soul is paramount and its effects are far-reaching but our capacity to enjoy this life & proclaim it will be greatly hindered if our bodies are weak with sickness and our lives cut short.
The Lord wants you well, spirit, soul, and body. It is His will that He is glorified in your life, all and not just a part of it.
